Costume Projects

SSTI Spotlight Project

As part of my experience at Southeastern Summer Theater Intensive, we were able to work in projects outside of the show that fit into our individual interests. I choose leatherworking. I created a design for a leather pauldron. Every stage of this process, from design sketches, to the test structure to the final product were all compeleted independently, with guidance from the staff only when needed.

I learned a lot about costume design and construction from this piece. We started with the design sketches and then moved on to pattern making, which was a really helpful skill to learn. I was able to work with new materials and new tools that really helped me broaden my skill set. Leatherworking is something I’m really interested in and plan to do more of in the future, both in personal projects and hopefully professional ones.

FCCLA Fashion Construction

I made this dress for Fashion Construction category at the 2023 FCCLA Conference. I used a vintage pattern and was inspired by designs of the 50s and 60s. I advanced all the way to the national competition in Colorado, where I received a Silver ranking.
