In the UNCSA Costume shop, I worked on several different shirts adding embroidery, specifically cross stitch, to add some extra detail to some plain tunics.
Simple Alterations
I also made many different simple alterations to different garments, including but not limited to hemming pants, shortening sleeves, shortening jacket sleeves, and tightening the waist. I also mended holes and small rips in garments.
Quick Rigging
I was also in charge of rigging jackets for a quick change. The entire set up was hand sewn. I closed all of the button holes and reattached the buttons in the proper places. I also added a panel with seven snaps to close the jacket and make the rigging unnoticeable.
GalaxyCon Cosplay
As a personal cosplay project, I created a full Little Mermaid costume for myself, featuring a very specific look from the cartoon. I fully constructed each piece of the costume, that included a skirt, tunic and bodice style corset. I also styled an inexpensive wig I found online and made a large bow with leftover fabric to complete the look.
DPAC Rising Star Awards
I was honored to be selected to work on the Student Technical Team for the 2025 DPAC Rising Stars Awards Show. I was part of a two student team that was in charge of costumes for the entire cast. This included constructing specialized light-up pieces for host Clay Aiken, bejeweling over 50 ties for the ensemble, organizing and steaming costumes in preparation for the performance. We also helped with quick changes and coordinated the return of any borrowed costumes for the show.
SSTI Spotlight Project
As part of my experience at Southeastern Summer Theater Intensive, we were able to work in projects outside of the show that fit into our individual interests. I choose leatherworking. I created a design for a leather pauldron. Every stage of this process, from design sketches, to the test structure to the final product were all compeleted independently, with guidance from the staff only when needed.
I learned a lot about costume design and construction from this piece. We started with the design sketches and then moved on to pattern making, which was a really helpful skill to learn. I was able to work with new materials and new tools that really helped me broaden my skill set. Leatherworking is something I’m really interested in and plan to do more of in the future, both in personal projects and hopefully professional ones.
FCCLA Fashion Construction
I made this dress for Fashion Construction category at the 2023 FCCLA Conference. I used a vintage pattern and was inspired by designs of the 50s and 60s. I advanced all the way to the national competition in Colorado, where I received a Silver ranking.
